Donut Excursion: Spudnuts

Do-Ho Travels to Los Angeles, California to visit Spudnuts

Sometimes, when you've had a tough week and you react by downing a chocolate molten lava cake on Friday night, you wonder whether a donut excursion the next morning is such a good idea. But then you think about all the Do-Ho followers who would otherwise miss out on crucial information related to donut establishments, and you soldier on.

Do-Ho and friend Laura (pictured) ventured up the 405 freeway this morning to a Spudnuts franchise on Venice Boulevard. The beauty of Spudnuts donuts is that they are made from potatoes, which presumably makes them much healthier than the other kind of donut. After all, potatoes are organic, they grow in the ground, and we use them to make good-for-you dishes like mashed potatoes, french fries and...hmmm. Well the nutritional information wasn't posted anywhere inside the shop, but Do-Ho made sure to ask the manager whether spudnuts contained calories. He responded quite seriously that they were low-fat and sugar-free. And then he laughed and suggested that we "just walk a few blocks afterwards."

A post-donut walk was not in the cards because quite frankly, it wasn't that kind of neighborhood. But we did enjoy a potato donut (or two) and agreed that we couldn't taste the difference between spudnuts and the other kind. So if your sweetie is getting a little thick around the middle, you might want to slip a couple of spudnuts his or her way--they'll be none the wiser.

You may be wondering about this terrible week of Do-Ho's. Well among other things, you probably noticed we had to bid farewell to a couple of Fantasy Football League players the other day. We wouldn't want to be overly critical, but those two guys were just not being team players and that is not okay. So without further ado, we asked them to turn in their cleats and sent them on their way. That's how we roll at Team Do-Ho.

Can't wait for the results from this weekend's games! Go Team Do-Ho!!!

The whole "spud"nut name makes so much more sense to me now! I just thought it was some quirky LA term. Thank you, Do-Ho for the enlightenment.

I'm new to your blog, but are you always so worried about the fat and calories in the donut or is this a new trend? Really, shouldn't a donut be one of those things we just indulge in without thought of our expanding waist lines? LOL Thanks for your words. They are a great way to start my day.

Nisi,
Thanks for your insight. I too, would like to enjoy my donuts unfettered by that nagging voice in my head. The voice sounds suspiciously like Momma Do-Ho, and it's saying "Don't let yourself go until after you get a ring on your finger!" Someday.

Maybe you should marry a donut maker!
